The Beekeepers
Theo, Age 17
This sculpture was inspired by the eerie attire of 1500’s beekeepers, in particular a drawing by Pieter Bruegel the Elder called The Beekeepers and the Birdnester. I also took ideas from the Modernist sculptures of Lynn Chadwick in the 1900’s, and from the gold filigree aesthetic of old churches in my local area. I tried to use the modern sculptural style to reimagine the haunting and medieval atmosphere of Bruegel’s original drawing. The sculpture was photographed on a church altar.
