Guilty
Madeleine, Age 17
This acrylic painting explores the aftermath of a crime. It is primarily composed of vital clues and objects used in an investigative process. When selecting the objects I tried to encapsulate the criminal mind by including a novel about a misanthropic outcast that has been linked with a range of crime investigations; John Lennon’s assassination and the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. The composition allows the motive to be reflected on the murder weapon in the centre of the piece. The objects associated with the murderer I chose to be dusky and overcast to reflect the morally depraved mindset, whereas those belonging to the detective have been painted in a lighter palette - though I chose not to utilise completely pure colours to acknowledge the corruption within these jobs.
