Daubed Complexion
Nathan, Age 16
This piece is a part of my project on interior design. I started by using oil paint to build thick fascinating textures. Then when developing my project I wanted to further investigate lighting and how light affects our lives. I started using extremely high contrasting colours and very dark shadows in my work. I then made a sculpture with paper and then moved onto cutting big blocks of foam down to make the eventual subject of this piece. Lighting this structure allowed me to create wonderful window-like highlights and shadows. Then with this piece I wanted to paint the pictures I took of this sculpture. To link back to the start of the project I used really thick oil paint, but I wanted to go down the conceptual and abstract route to focus on light and texture.
