Isolated in the Artificial
Florence, Age 18
My painting depicts a distortion of ornamental fish held captive in plastic bags displayed in shops. The unnatural light boldens the subjects, making them seem unreal. The crowded bags create a claustrophobic effect, consequently mimicking the impact isolation has on society. I wanted to show how systems often neatly package people to fit commercialisation, in the same way animals are treated as accessories instead of vital parts of our ecosystem.
