Motivated and inspired by Christina Rossetti’s moralistic poem ‘Goblin Market’, the artwork ‘Sisterhood’ exemplifies the notion of female solidarity in the face of external pressures. Whether such dangers of the world come in the form of fantastical ‘goblins’ or more ‘realistic’ forces, both the poem and the piece allude to familial and sororal links as the key to overcoming adversity. The dense environment and use of saturated tones flood the piece with an intensity, as though the surroundings desire to permeate the two girls' bond. Yet, the girls continue to endure such hardships, using each other as a support system to ensure and preserve their wellbeing.
