Grandmother's Socks
Belinda, Age 18
This acrylic painting is of the socks my grandmother hand-made for my father after he was forced to join the army in Kosovo. Usually, many things were hand-made, as they did not have the luxury of pre-made items because of a lack of money. These socks have followed my father along a journey as an immigrant and they remain with him all the time as a memory of his mother, and also the sacrifices he made to get to a country in which he could provide for the rest of his family members in Kosovo after having lost everything after the war in 1999.
