Giving in to Temptation
Becca, Age 17
This is a piece inspired by greed. It plays particular reference to the story of Eve and the forbidden fruit. It shows how the Devil lures in the weaker subjects of society through the seduction of our desires; in this case, gluttonous desires. The primary, suited figure, although masked by the brim of the hat, glares directly at the audience to show his awareness of his actions and his lack of shame in doing so. He represents the angels who have fallen from heaven under the influence of sinful explorations.
The style of this piece is influenced by some of Dali's artworks, particularly his melting clock imagery, as well as Francis Bacon's chaotic backgrounds. The horror theme of the piece is drawn largely from Goya's 'Black Paintings' series.
